I had this wart thing on the back of my leg. It kept snagging on the razor and bleeding every time I shaved my legs. I was hoping I would just slice it off, but it kept growing back. So I enlisted the aid of my doc to get it off there permanently. My doctor and I had this exact conversation. Ironically I *DID* come down with a superbug infection in the incision immediately after this minor surgery. My previous and repeated lacerations of the site with an unsterile razor, however, had never caused a flaming infection. In retrospect, I think the doc should have cancelled the “operation,” as I was just off a course of antibiotics (ergo lacking in all bugs including the “good” ones), and I was in a clinic. Clinics are notorious for being maggoty with superbugs. Either that or I should have insisted that he do it in the parking lot with *MY* pocket knife. It should have healed with just a tiny scar, but now I have another big ragged scar to remember the story by.
Well at least it is on the back of your leg and you won’t see it much.
By that logic we could all just go around with our bare butts flapping in the breeze because *WE* don’t have to look at it.
I had heard that apple cider vinegar (soak a band aid and apply) works for warts. Might give it a try next time. Cheers.
So do you still have a leg?
Yes, I still have the leg. It just has a huge ugly scar on the back where it should have been just a tiny little white spot.
The Scalpel is being a jerk by being so sharp.
Great story. i have a small wart on the back of my left knee. i think i’ll leave it where it is
With all news about flesh-eating bacteria and stuff, this was actually a scary story.
It is not the flesh eating bacteria, it is MRSA, an antibiotic resistant strain of the common staph bacteria that is everywhere. Right now there is a [very expensive] antibiotic that kills it, but I’m sure it will eventually evolve to resist that too. And most doctors don’t like to talk about it, because most infections can be traced to originating at a clinic or other place where surfaces and tools are routinely “sterilized.”
Here’s my fabulous intelligent comment;
Hope the flesh eating bug doesn’t chew your whole leg off.
It wasn’t that and it didn’t. Just a nasty scar where there should not have been one.
I had a similar experience a year or so ago. Not with a superbug infection, but with side effects from the treatment. Sometimes we’d just be better off letting nature take its course.
But, at least you’ll have that Oxycontin you got down in Mexico to help you recuperate. Viva Ensanada! 🙂
Didn’t need to go to Mexico — I hoarded 100% USA Vicodin from when I was in the hospital. It has been quite useful from time to time.
Superbugs will long outlast us mere humans.
That’s quite the picture-perfect creepy doctor pose!
That Doc looks strangely familiar…
