By “old geek” (AKA “mature” geek) I am not talking about someone who can collect social security. I’m talking about anyone over the age of 38 or so. It turns out that experience isn’t always your friend and a mature geek considers him or herself lucky to even score an interview. All these little nickel and dime companies run by boomers think all the people around their age can’t grok the latest tech because THEY don’t get it. Or they think their situation is so “special” that experience elsewhere won’t help. Wrong or not, they’re the ones who are interviewing and hiring. The punchline of this comic was supposed to say “work hard for peanuts.” I didn’t fix it because it still packs the punch without that word. You will get that later anyway if you read the upcoming episodes. For the new year, I am going to do a series of work-related comics. This is also my first comic with a car in it. I’m quite proud of the car.
“Mature” Geek Job Interview,
Nice job on the car, Colleen. I hate drawing those. I agree with what you're saying. I feel like a relic already, especially since I graduated from college just about a year before they discovered that computers were indeed here to stay. With each year, I become more and more irrelevant. I think I'll hold on to my current job until they pry my dying hands from my desk. 🙂
That's not gonna happen George. They'll lay you off long before you bite it just to get out of paying the supposedly higher cost of health bennies for geezers. I find it a little easier drawing mechanical things because they are not required to have personality. But they are complicated and they take time. I can recolor the car & cut & paste, but if I flip it it becomes right hand drive.
that's the fun of being retires,no pink slips no extra moola.
"over the age of 38 or so"
Yikes!!! I'm definitely in that category, or beyond…
Yes good job of the car. I can't get them to look very realistic like you have. That one looks very realistic. Great job
If I look at a real car it comes out OK. If I don't it comes out looking like a mutant child's pull toy. I don't know why I can't remember what cars look like.
Yeah, those companies can always make slick policies like that.
I'll wait to see what comes up with that "work hard for peanuts."
Funny you mention the car. When I looked a the pictoral archive page, that was the first thing that caught my eye. Cheers!
It occurred to me that singling out mature applicants for generalization (i.e. profiling) like Tim did is a sign that society considers it OK to discriminate against them. You would never say, Oh I love how the the black people I've worked with tend never to raise a stink about anything and they're soo good with the metric system!
lol! i enjoyed the cartoon! very clever!!!
Hahaha. This is definitely funny. Old geeks "38 or so" I like your humor. I'll definitely wait for the other work-related comics. ;D
Cute drawing, It looks like a comic book. Work hard for Peanuts? what about that?

I cant wait to see more of your comic's, they are good.
where’s the continuation? you should make post drawings like this, same time funny and entertaining.
