Skin care is just plain ridiculous — at least for women. All this expensive and time consuming goop out there that promises youth. If any of it really worked, don’t you think people would know about it. All it is is DAMAGE CONTROL! I’ve been told that in LA, pretty much everyone gets botox and/or plastic surgery, like starting in their 20’s or even before. Schwarzenegger got botox. What is so frickin’ bad about being a little weathered? I don’t think anyone could fix my scars without just makin’ more of ’em. I laugh at “plastic people” and certainly don’t take them seriously. Heed this comic and do the same.
Damage Control,
Personally, I think that a woman in her natural stage is quite beautiful. I see a lot of the botoxed and breast-augmented females out here in SoCal, and they just seem so fake and surreal. And you're right, they're starting younger and younger. I wish the media would cease making women feel un-pretty unless they've had work done. I think crow's feet and laugh lines have a certain degree of sexiness to them. Yes, it's true, I'm weird. 😀
Though I heard George got botox in his bum to remove the dimples there.
How would you know anything about that one way or another Bearman?
It could have come from my Booty-Shaker Gravatar I had during my years as a hobo stripper. Everything's all over the net and it's never going away. Sigh…
I prefer for my bum to resemble a chocolate golf ball. 😀
Aaaaaaaaah. The visual
Of course, you are right! There are so many people who have stretched faces and in most cases they look like an artist's impression rather than the real thing. It is also very sad that those who do it appear to look in the mirror and see something else, something that the rest of us never see. We see people looking like drum skins stretched and stretched, and in some instances are left wondering 'what if it suddenly rips apart – what then?'
There is nothing quite so beautiful as seeing someone who has lived but has never forgotten how to smile at the world. Their faces illuminate wonderful experiences they show that every minute upon the Earth they have treasured and lived to the fullest …. what a waste it is for those who have failed to do this who have been too vain to live at all!!
You put that very eloquently Polly. I have a cousin in Dallas who says, well of course I feel that way too but I have to live among all these shallow appearance based people. So when does doing that to yourself make you turn into one of them. By being a part of it you are supporting that mindset.
I've just accepted i'm getting old. A little bit.
Even if I had the money I wouldn't do it. I look in the mirror now and see the signs of aging. I have the age spots, the sagging skin under the chin and etc. But you know something. I am happy and would not be any happier if I had surgery. I am what I am and I am not trying to be someone I once was.
The previous rambling was just my opinion.
My buddies in my age group and older all chime in like this, 'cos we're all in the same boat — it's not VANITY, it's that no one wants to be marginalised based on wrinkles. It would be nice it people in a position to judge didn't judge ppl by their age. I confess I catch myself doing it sometimes unconsciously and I fight it. Unfortunately, age and treachery don't always trump youth and skill. However age and treachery get a fighting chance when the mature ones stick up for eachother. The youngsters aren't mature enough to know that yet.
Seems it's more acceptable for men to age than women. Women have to look 20, no matter how old they actually are. It's unfortunate we don't respect age for all the positive things it represents.
Indeed, Binky. It makes sense biologically from a reproductive perspective, but why do we push that basic biology into all aspects of our culture where it has no relevance? Way less "advanced" cultures like ancient Japan understood that elders aren't in the baby making business any more, they are much MORE valuable for their knowledge and wisdom, and deserving of respect.
Japan has a "Respect for Elders" day. We could definitely use the same.
I agree with what you say,
I don't think i have seen one person that have had work done that looks better for it they all look like they have just stepped out of a wind tunnel, it's beyond me how they can honestly say they look better afterwards, but I suppose if it makes them happy 🙂
Once they have it done it seems they have to keep having it done till eventually their face cheeks meet at the back arrrgh!
you don't have to be a woman to appreciate the humor here. But I also agree a woman is like a good wine,m better with time.
There's something more than a little sick about a society that places so much value on superficiality. Your sags and wrinkles tell the story of your life – wear them with pride! 🙂
It'd be interesting to read Frankie's rant on this subject!
My wife hasn't gotten to damage control age just yet but you wouldn't know it the way she talks. I wonder why it is women see themselves in such a negative light physically, especially when it comes to their skin. The worst part is when I tell her how beautiful she looks (and I genuinely mean it) she gets mad. I have to say, I think the fact that this comic deals with real life feelings in a funny way makes it all the more enjoyable. Keep up the great work.
I meant this to be a funnier comment but I got sidetracked with RL…my bad.
I use soap and water. That's it. Well some moisturizer or my face would fall off. That's it. I agree that you can't beat gravity. You are so right about Los Angeles. Almost everyone get work done. It shows too.
Have a terrific day. 🙂
From a long distance one might look better after "work done" but from close up it's so obvious. I'm a pure milled soap and water girl myself.
Never touched any skin care in my life. Well, okay, only for a short period when my puberty kicked in and looking good sounded like a must. Then I found music and guitar and what the heck with looking good and stylish and all.
Personally, I don't mind at all if my look shows my age; but I try not to be old, I mean in way of thinking, personality, and (above all) spirit. It's always good to acquire better wisdom, but I always want to preserve the some of the good qualities of youth.
Facial surgery always makes people look like a lion getting its head shoved through a tennis racket. Just get fake boobs. Men, too. For some reason.
No fake boobs for me. My philosophy on boobs is "more than a mouthful is overkill."
My wife doesn't use all that make up muck & skin treatment stuff For 47 her skin is really smooth & good & not rough & wrinkly. I think it's from NOT clogging her pores with all that stuff.
I just hit the age where I'm starting to think about this stuff. But I'm not willing to go beyound sun screen and a little make up. To hell with it – this is me and I'm too tired to fight it.
Oh, don't get me started on skin. You saw what did to the human spirit, I want to destroy my complexion.
Nice one…
Has a lot of truth…
I watched a Gibson (yeah, I know not the most popular guy) film tonight and noticed that he doesn't get botox in his face. He looks really natural and extremely rugged.
I say let certain people get plastic surgery and botox. It lets the rest of us know who they are.
Oh hell yeah! Who am I to tell people what to do. I reserve the right to laugh at how ridiculous it is though!
